Winter 2024: Lake Tahoe Destination Stewardship News You Can Use

by | News & Updates

Dear Lake Tahoe community members, business owners and visitors,

With the winter season underway, I’m thrilled to report that destination stewardship efforts throughout the region continue to be advanced by Destination Stewardship Council partners. You can find more details below with regard to some of the initiatives underway.

Before diving into those updates however, I wanted to share the Council’s working definition of “destination stewardship,” which is:

A long term strategy that aims to create a positive experience for both residents and visitors while also taking care of the environment, culture, and community.

With that in mind, the purpose of the Destination Stewardship Council is to implement the Destination Stewardship Plan by using communications (like this) to educate, promote, broaden awareness, and amplify Destination Stewardship in the Tahoe region. Through collaboration we are increasing efficiency and adoption rates of action-oriented solutions to Destination Stewardship projects. Finally, we’re committed to being the catalyst that convenes and inspires individual organizations in their Destination Stewardship efforts.

I recently connected with Mike Peron and Rob Galloway at the Tahoe Daily Tribune for a chat on the TAP podcast about how the Destination Stewardship Plan is being brought to life, and efforts to balance thriving tourism, vibrant communities, and environmental sustainability. If you haven’t already listened to our conversation, you can tune in here.

Thanks for your interest in what the Destination Stewardship Council and the wide-reaching collection of community members who make up our action teams are focused on! Please read the latest newsletter to learn about some of the great work that’s happening.

All my best,

Nettie Pardue

Managing Director, Lake Tahoe Destination Stewardship Council
