Following an eventful summer of clean-up efforts using BEBOT Beach Cleaning Robot, an initiative started by the League to Save Lake Tahoe and ECO-CLEAN Solutions that received funding through the NTCA’s TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program, data shows the initiative has been worthwhile.
In 2025, BEBOT:
- Performed 21 cleanings across 11 unique beaches, including repeat cleanings (early and late season) at 9 targeted beaches.
- Cleaned just over 1,000,000 square feet of beach area, up from 120,000 square feet in 2024. (8x the area cleaned.)
- Removed 29,410 litter items from the beach subsurface, up from 5,600 in 2024. (5x the litter items removed.)
- Removed 13,744 plastic litter items from the beach subsurface, making up 47% of the total collected.
The top items collected by BEBOT in 2025 were:
- Miscellaneous plastic pieces (8,153)
- Non-native nuts and shells (4,113)
- Other miscellaneous pieces (4,002)
- Miscellaneous paper pieces (1,927)
- Cigarette butts (1,703)
- Plastic food wrappers (1,388)
