by | News & Updates

Following an eventful summer of clean-up efforts using BEBOT Beach Cleaning Robot, an initiative started by the League to Save Lake Tahoe and ECO-CLEAN Solutions that received funding through the NTCA’s TOT-TBID Dollars At Work program, data shows the initiative has been worthwhile.

In 2025, BEBOT:

  • Performed 21 cleanings across 11 unique beaches, including repeat cleanings (early and late season) at 9 targeted beaches.
  • Cleaned just over 1,000,000 square feet of beach area, up from 120,000 square feet in 2024. (8x the area cleaned.)
  • Removed 29,410 litter items from the beach subsurface, up from 5,600 in 2024. (5x the litter items removed.)
  • Removed 13,744 plastic litter items from the beach subsurface, making up 47% of the total collected.

The top items collected by BEBOT in 2025 were:

  • Miscellaneous plastic pieces (8,153)
  • Non-native nuts and shells (4,113)
  • Other miscellaneous pieces (4,002)
  • Miscellaneous paper pieces (1,927)
  • Cigarette butts (1,703)
  • Plastic food wrappers (1,388)

The League to Save Lake Tahoe will share additional analysis from their end-of-year recap soon.
